No child should be separated from their family solely because of poverty. But it isn’t easy for single mothers in Honduras. This Giving Tuesday, your donation to Casita Copan today can go twice as far to help families find the resources they need to stay together.
In Honduras, malnutrition remains a significant concern, particularly among children. According to data from the World Food Programme, approximately 19% of children under the age of five in Honduras suffer from chronic malnutrition.
At Casita Copan, we understand the critical role that nutrition plays in the development and well-being of children. Our nutrition program focuses on providing balanced, wholesome and culturally aligned meals to ensure that every child receives the essential nutrients needed for healthy growth. We work closely with local businesses and markets to source fresh, locally-produced ingredients, promoting not only physical health but also supporting the local economy. Through our nutrition initiatives, our goal is to create a foundation for a lifetime of good health and resilience in the children we serve.
At Casita Copan, we believe in the transformative power of learning, and that is why tutoring and classes are one of our mission’s foundations. Our education programs go beyond traditional classroom settings, as we try to incorporate innovative and engaging teaching methods to inspire a love for knowledge.
We focus on providing not only academic support but also the teaching of important life-skills while encouraging critical thinking, creativity, and a sense of curiosity. Through our well planned classes throughout the year, we aim to empower children with the tools they need to break the cycle of poverty and build a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
At Casita Copan, we are committed to the holistic well-being of the children we serve. In Honduras, access to healthcare services is extremely limited, particularly in rural areas. Our healthcare initiative prioritizes access to quality medical services and preventative care, starting with encouraging healthy hygiene habits to stop the spread of communicable diseases.
We collaborate with healthcare professionals and local clinics to provide regular check-ups, vaccinations, and health education, as well as visits to specialist doctors in other cities when it is required. By addressing both physical and mental health needs, we attempt to ensure that each child is given the best possible chance to thrive. Our comprehensive approach to healthcare reflects our dedication to creating a supportive environment that nurtures the overall health of every child in programs.
Casita Copan recognizes the importance of a stable and nurturing home environment for children in vulnerable situations. Our Casitas (long-term care homes) aim to provide a safe and loving space for children and teenagers who may not have a family of their own or have been separated from them for different reasons.
We work closely with our trained foster mothers to ensure that each child receives personalized care, emotional support, and a sense of belonging. By placing children in supportive family settings, our goal is to create a foundation for positive emotional and social development, giving them the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential in a caring and stable environment.
