Meet Michelle, our new Development Coordinator

Hi! Hello!

My name is Michelle, and I’m joining the Casita team to be on the frontlines of fundraising activities, donor relations, communications and much more!

I’m 300% Honduran, born and raised in the beautiful (always sunny!) San Pedro Sula. I’m the middle child of four siblings and for as long as I can remember, social justice has always been a very crucial topic for me.

It started with me becoming an animal rights activist back in 2007, helping local shelters with their marketing materials to me (well, my whole family) fostering more than 30+ stray dogs at one time in our house. Fun memories!

A former boss once told me I was a giant walking heart, so when I became a mom to my adorable 4 year old son, Matias, an entire new world opened before me and I realized (and understood) the struggles moms and children go through, and I knew I wanted to somehow (someday) be involved in being part of the solution.

And the day did come! When I saw Casita’s opening for an operations development manager, I knew that was it. After my first meeting with Emily, and reading through Casita’s mission and seeing all the accomplishments they’ve made so far, it struck home that whatever the outcome of my application, I needed to be part of this amazing community and team.

But as fate would have it, after I got the news from Emily, I immediately packed everything and made all the arrangements to move to the forever magical Copan Ruinas, which coincidentally enough has always been the go-to place for our family for small trips, birthdays and pretty much anything, so it was a no-brainer to start this new chapter of our lives here.

I’m hoping that with my vast experience in building and growing teams and processes from scratch and background in digital marketing, I can bring new perspectives and help make work easier/smoother for the whole team and thus elevating the Casita Copan experience for all our children and moms and of course, you, our amazing and always supportive community.

If I can be of any assistance, if you have any questions or just want to chat – feel absolutely free to shoot me a note at!
