Special Education at Casita

Our brand new pilot special education program is up and running. The program, funded with a grant from RetailROI, has seen around 30 students from the school in our neighborhood receive the additional learning support that they need so that they are not left behind in class.

The students, aged from 7 to 11 years, from Juan Ramon Cueva School come to Casita Copan every day during the week for 2 hours before going to school. We are able to provide a space in which the children can learn in their own way at their own pace, outside of the restrictions of the regular classroom environment. They each receive help from our experienced volunteers and psychologist. The program is being run in collaboration with CEPI, a new local center that works on child psychomotor stimulation, with some of the students having been referred for extra help directly with the center.

We are delighted to be able to increase our engagement with more members of the community and to be making another positive impact in Copan Ruinas, which has only been made possible thanks to the collaboration of our partner organizations and the close cooperation of all of the children’s teachers and parents.
