A Tropical Christmas

A Tropical Christmas

The sun is shining and it’s impossible to believe it’s almost Christmas. The only clues are the Christmas trees (one outside and one inside!) that the kids decorated and light up every day. The Honduran school year is over until February so the kids are wild with the excitement of vacation. Luckily we were invited to a local church today to use their enormous field complete with soccer goals and a volleyball net. The church is right across the road from the river so we couldn’t resist taking a little walk over to the river to cool off. The kids started off just wading but the sun was blazing and we all ended up soaked. Even little Juan, Albita, and Josuelia stripped down and jumped in.

This was the first part of our Christmas celebration and on Thursday we are continuing to party –  this time with the whole family! Thanks to some very generous donations, our kids and their moms will enjoy a delicious meal (prepared by our very own Suyapa), fresh juice, and of course a homemade cake. We have hand-picked a gift for each child and we are also making gift baskets with food and household items for each family. Some of our sponsors pitched in a little extra to make the holidays a little brighter for their sponsored child.

It’s not too late to join the celebration! I know that money is tight at this time of year, but it would mean a lot to us if you considered making a donation to the kids of Casita Copán. We are entirely supported by individuals like you – people who believe in our vision to provide a better future for some of the most vulnerable children in Copan Ruinas. Happy Holidays!! As always, stay posted to see what we’re up to as 2012 comes to a close.
